Gabang Ggeun is a guide for smarter graduate school admissions
- Matching undergraduates and graduate students as 1:1 mentors at a low cost

Due to an increasing unemployment rate during the Covid era, graduate school entrance rates are increasing as well, and a service to quickly and easily receive graduate school admissions consulting is gaining attention.

Gabang Ggeun, is an all-in-one graduate school service which provides a lecture timetable feature and provides a previously unequal and expensive admissions consulting at a relatively low cost by matching undergraduates with graduate students one-on-one.

“I participated in various online communities to enter grad school but it didn’t help,” said CEO Lee Jiwoo who developed the Gabang Ggeun app. “There was a desperate need for a dedicated platform to communicate grad school related content such as research topics and the lab atmosphere,” explained Lee.

“It was also an attempt to relieve the dilemmas of graduate school candidates on whether to increase the probability through expensive consultation, or spend time and effort on a slim admissions probability,” added Lee.

Currently admissions consulting for Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University, starting from writing a personal statement to interview preparation costs over 3 million Won.

However, this cost can be greatly reduced using Gabang Ggeun.

Gabang Ggeun makes profit from admissions consulting through one-on-one mentoring between current graduate school students and graduate school candidates. Graduate school students provide information to receive payment, and candidates pay a fee to acquire information.

“We are getting grad students to participate more actively by setting fees as low as possible for the one-on-one mentoring,”said CEO Lee. “We are providing quality information by bringing in mentors from various schools and majors.”

Gabang Ggeun is preparing a global version for candidates planning to study abroad or foreigners coming to Korea for their graduate degrees.

For this, Gabang Ggeun participated in the Global IR Project run by the Yonsei University Campustown Center last September.

The company will participate in the ‘A-STREAM’ event on November 8th, hosted by the global accelerator company Y&Archer to receive investment feedback from global investors.

“Through the English version we are planning to establish one-day classes for areas needed by grad students such as how to write English papers, or lectures on statistical software,” said CEO Lee. “Gabang Ggeun will connect grad students and improve circumstances for all graduate students.”
